Stream overview
Risk isn’t an easy concept. Understanding risk is much more about our cognitive perceptions and the systems we put in place than merely a two-factor matrix of severity and probability. The more we willingly implement effective risk-related systems and are honest with ourselves about our cognitive biases, the better our risk management will be. Unlock the secrets of lab safety and risk management with Lab Manager Academy’s comprehensive Risk stream credential. Dive into four courses designed to enhance your understanding of risk-related topics and to empower you with the skills needed to create a safer laboratory environment.

What is this stream credential about?

    • Risk Assessing and Characterizing: In this course, you will learn to assess and characterize risk using tools like RAMP (recognize, assess, minimize, and prepare), explore the intricacies of risk beyond the traditional equation, and you will gain insights into hazard, safety, and risk definitions, various risk matrices, and assessment methods.
    • Risk Communication and Decision-Making: It is beneficial to understand the psychology behind risk perception and decision-making under uncertainty. In this course you will delve into the affective and analytical risk systems, cognitive biases affecting decisions, and the role of storytelling in effective risk communication.
    • Risk Management and Mitigation: This course explores the hierarchy of hazard controls and the importance of collaboration in hazard mitigation. Learn with our esteemed instructor to understand why Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is not always the first line of defense, and evaluate how multi-disciplinary teams contribute to more effective risk management.
    • Life Safety: This course focuses on life safety essentials, including fires, exits, maximum allowable quantities, and building codes. You will gain knowledge about human factors in fires, the impact of said maximum allowable quantities, and the critical role of exits in life safety decisions.
